We have some awesome 1st grade buddies this year in Miss Gibson's class. We meet every week or so to read together or do a fun activity. Here are some pictures from our last meeting
Today we got to meet an actual author! His name is C.W. Trisef and he shared his series called Oracle. It's all about mysteries around the world and the elements that make up the Earth. He was very funny and we already started reading the first book Oracle: Sunken Earth.. We are excited to see what adventures that Ret Cooper gets into. Check out his website here http://www.trisef.com
PS: Not sure why I never got an actual picture of him.. oops I love how more and more kids are seeing kindness EVERYWHERE, even in the smallest forms :) Today during math, we started our math warm up book. I give students a number, number sentence or story problem. Today, it was 6x7. There were to show how many different ways they could show this multiplication sentence. Evan came up with a brilliant way, a NUMBER LINE. This blew Mrs. Dunn away because I have not seen a kid this year use this strategy (we talk about it later on). I love this strategy because it shows not only 6 x7 but also 1x7. 2x7. and so on. Evan was also VERY accurate in labeling both the top and bottom of his number line! Woo HOO!
Lots of kiddos have been spotting their classmates showing kindness last week and today!! Here's a few We are starting a Kindness Kampaign in our classroom. We are on the lookout for students showing kindness toward others. Here are some of the acts of kindness I already saw on the 1st day:
Each Friday, we have our weekly Friday Meeting. Students get a Post-It note and have 4 options to pick from:
Kudos: Recognize someone who did something well Questions: A questions about the class, school, etc. Concerns: Write something that is worrying you Suggestions: IT can be for Mrs. Dunn, the classroom or the school Each week, I choose 2 leaders who have been super stellar. They run the meeting by reading each sticky. (If they can't read it, they trash it. Sneaky way of encouraging nice handwriting) After the stickies, they choose 5 students to share what our class goal should be. The class leaders write the ideas on the board and then the class participates in "Keep it or Junk It." The class leaders read the goal and students either vote to Keep It or Junk It. The class leader decide by majority to leave it on the board or "junk it" (erase it). They continue until it narrows down to one. Then, we have our goal for the week. So far, our goals have been: *Line up quietly the first time *Get good scores in specials *Line up quietly the first time (we had a good conversation why they felt like they needed to repeat this goal) Here are some pictures from our Friday meetings of our wonderful class leaders! |
