We just were introduced to a new website called Storybird. It's where students can using their writing skills and create their own picture books, chapter books and poems with preloaded artwork.
After having the author Gary Hogg come last week to our school, the kids put to good use his advice on writing your first book and thinking twice as author. We have also been learning about similes this week so students created picture books that used similes. Let's just say they were HIGHLY engaged! I hope to be able to share their published books with you soon. Here's some pictures of them" Our Wax Museum was on Friday and the kids did amazing at their speeches and performances :) Their posters also turned out great!
Here are some pictures from our last couple class meetings. We do these each Friday morning to discuss our goals, kudos, concerns, questions and suggestions.
After a few months of studying what mind work readers of non fiction do, students ended the unit by creating posters showcasing their Top 5 Non Fiction Strategies. Students also used their notebooks and non fiction books to show examples of where this important mind work takes place. Here are a few examples:
marvelous! well mannered! thoughtful!
They show perseverance by trying it again and all it all, they make everyone around them feel good by showing what a leader does, not telling you what to do. Here are some kiddos in our class over the last month that have shown just that! Before we start drafting our informational books, we like to prepare ourselves by rehearsing our topics. Students attended "classes" ranging from fence building, giraffes, soccer and taking care of a baby. Here are a few pictures of kids rehearsing their topics by teaching it to groups. Then the "students" of the class told the teachers something they wished they would have included, asked a question they had, or shared something they really liked.
We are still on the hunt for kindness in our classroom and around our school. Today, Mrs. Dunn saw Kelsei be kind by helping our new student Aden with a math problem. Instead of getting mad, Aden was kind by saying "Hey, thank you" back to her! Way to be leaders for kindness, Kelsei and Aden
